You may already use Twitter to keep up with your favorite sports teams or share some memes with your friends, but do you know how to get recruited using Twitter? Whether you already use the social media platform or not, you should build a profile that will help you connect with coaches and bring you one step closer to getting recruited.
Every recruit should set up their Twitter profile so that coaches can easily find any information that they may need about you.
What to Include in Your Twitter Bio:
- School and School Location
- Position(s)
- Graduation Year
- Height and Weight
- GPA
- ACT and SAT Scores
In addition to the above information, make sure to use your real name on Twitter. Your profile picture should be a photo of you in your uniform. Avoid using group photos or goofy images. In other words, you want your profile to look as professional as possible.
What You Should Share on Your Twitter Profile:
Coaches will scroll down to the bottom of your feed. Therefore, you need to be smart about what your share on Twitter. You don’t want to give them any reasons not to offer you. Even a simple retweet or like could force them to rethink their offer. In short, don’t post anything that can jeopardize your college sports career.
Your pinned tweet should be your film or highlight tape. In other words, you should edit a highlight of your top 5-7 plays, tweet it and pin it to the top of your profile. Above all, you want to make it as easy as possible for the coach to see your top plays. Even if the film lives on HUDL, YouTube, or another platform, you should still make it easily accessible on your Twitter profile.
DMing Coaches:
In addition to pinning your highlight tape, you can message the tweet out to coaches as well. Check the analytics, set goals for how many views you want to get then start DMing it out to coaches. Remember, make sure your DMs are open!
